Terms of service

Clair has four parts: the app for Android phones and Wear OS watches, the Clair agent (the clair program) for your computer, the relay at relay.claircode.app that connects them, and this website. Together they bring Claude Code's permission prompts, questions and plan reviews to your phone and watch, and take your answers back.

Clair is independent. It is not made, sponsored or endorsed by Anthropic, and it works with Claude Code through the hooks Claude Code gives every user. Anthropic's terms, not these, govern your use of Claude Code and your Claude account.

The privacy policy explains what data Clair handles. It's part of these terms.

Privacy policy

You must be at least 13, or older if your country sets a higher age for agreeing to terms like these. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian has to agree to these terms for you. If you use Clair for an employer or another organization, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it.

Clair is free to install. Answering prompts from your phone or watch needs a subscription, bought through Google Play. Without one, Clair is read-only: you can still follow your sessions and get notifications, and you answer prompts in the terminal. The app shows which features need a subscription.

A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price Google Play shows you, until you cancel it. It covers the app on your phone and watch, the agent on your computers, and use of the relay. None of them is sold separately. If the price changes, Google Play tells you before the new price applies, following its own rules.

Google Play may offer a free trial to new subscribers. Unless you cancel before it ends, the trial turns into a paid subscription and Google Play charges you.

Cancel anytime in Google Play. You keep answering prompts until the end of the period you've paid for, and then Clair becomes read-only. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel a subscription. If Google Play can't take a payment, Clair is read-only until the payment goes through.

Google Play takes the payment, and its terms and refund policies apply to your subscription. Ask for a refund through Google Play. Nothing in these terms limits a refund right your local law gives you.

I give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on the devices Google Play lets you install it on, and to install and run the agent on computers you use, for as long as you follow these terms. The features that need a subscription are yours to use while it's active. Google Play's terms also cover the app you get from it.

Clair's software, design, name and logo belong to me. Unless the law allows it regardless, you may not copy, modify, redistribute, sell or rent Clair, or reverse engineer it.

If you send me ideas or feedback, I can use them without owing you anything.

Clair shows you what Claude Code is asking and sends back the answer you choose. It decides nothing for you. You're responsible for what you let Claude Code do, whether you answer on your watch, your phone or in the terminal. That includes the commands it runs, the files it changes, and any rule you accept that lets it act without asking again.

A watch or phone shows less than your terminal does. If you can't see enough to be sure, answer at your computer. The first answer settles a prompt, so anyone who picks up your phone or watch while it isn't locked can answer for you.

Keep your devices secure, and revoke a pairing as soon as a paired phone or computer is lost or no longer yours.

The agent adds its hooks and status line to Claude Code's settings.json after saving a backup of the file, and clair unpair takes them back out. Installed as a service, it starts when you sign in. Release builds update themselves from claircode.app, only to releases signed with my release key, unless you set "autoUpdate": false in agent.json. You're responsible for the computers you install it on, and for having permission to install it there.

The relay carries Clair's messages between your devices. You agree not to:

• use it for anything other than Clair, or build other software on it
• get around its rate limits, or send it more traffic than normal use of Clair needs
• probe, attack or disrupt it, or try to reach other people's messages or pairings
• use Clair to break the law or infringe anyone's rights

If you find a security problem, tell me at support@claircode.app before making it public, and give me a reasonable time to fix it.

I may block devices, IP addresses or pairings that break these rules or put the relay at risk.

I work to keep the relay running, but I can't promise it will always be up or that every message arrives. Prompts still show in your terminal, where you can answer them yourself.

I may change Clair, add or remove features, change which features need a subscription, or change how the relay works. If I ever shut the relay down for good, I'll announce it on this site ahead of time.

Clair depends on software I don't control, including Claude Code, Android, Wear OS, Google Play services and Firebase. A change to any of them can stop part of Clair from working. I'll try to adapt, but I'm not responsible for their changes.

Clair is provided as is and as available. To the extent the law allows, I disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. I don't promise that Clair will be free of errors or interruptions, or that it will deliver every prompt or answer on time.

Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.

To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, code or work, arising from Clair or these terms. That includes harm from anything Claude Code does after you allow it, and from a prompt or answer that arrives late or not at all.

My total liability for all claims about Clair or these terms is limited to the greater of what you paid for Clair in the 12 months before the claim and US$50.

These limits don't apply to liability the law doesn't let me limit, such as for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

To the extent the law allows, if someone makes a claim against me because you used Clair in breach of these terms or the law, you'll cover my reasonable costs and losses from that claim, except any part of it that's my fault.

You can stop using Clair whenever you like: cancel your subscription in Google Play, run clair unpair on each computer, and uninstall the app. I may suspend or end your access to the relay if you break these terms, with notice where I reasonably can. When these terms end, your license in section 4 ends with them. My ownership in section 4, and sections 9 to 15, still apply.

California law governs these terms, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute about Clair or these terms goes to the state or federal courts in California, and we both agree to their jurisdiction. Before you file a claim, email support@claircode.app so we can try to settle it informally.

If you live in the EU, the UK or another country whose law gives consumers more protection, you keep that protection, including the right to bring a claim in your own country's courts.

I may update these terms. I'll change the effective date at the top, and for a material change I'll post in Updates at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless a legal or security reason needs it sooner. If you keep using Clair after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you don't accept them, stop using Clair.

Clair updates

These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and me about Clair. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. If I don't enforce a term right away, I haven't waived it. You can't transfer these terms to anyone without my agreement. I may transfer them to whoever takes over Clair, and I'll say so here if I do.
